State Track Meet – 2007

Andrew (look for the tall kid in the gray shirt/black shorts that starts third from the inside) did great at the state track meet. He won his heat in the 800m, but didn’t end up medaling. I’m not sure what place he got overall–we didn’t stay to find out the final results. They should have the results online sometime this weekend. He ran a good time (3:10) although he ran faster earlier in the year (3:06). If he had been in the other heat I believe he would’ve run faster, but I still don’t think he would’ve medaled. Nevertheless he ran great and we are very proud. You can tell from the video that my dad and I get pretty excited when he runs. 🙂

The Regional Track Meet

Andrew competed in the regional TAAF track meet Friday evening at the Baylor track in Waco. He didn’t run a very good time, but got 3rd place which qualified him for the state meet in 2 weeks. We will probably go and compete. His best time of the year is 3:06 but he only ran a 3:17 at regionals. First and second place were 3:06 and 3:07, so he really should’ve been in the mix. He just had nothing left at the end of the race. He’s been playing so much baseball (he had baseball camp AND regional baseball playoffs all this past week) that he hasn’t done any track work for probably 3 weeks and I think that has something to do with it. We’ll try to do a little training before the state meet and see what happens. Regardless, I’m VERY proud of him!

Track update

It has been a few weeks since I posted anything about track. We’ve been really busy and I haven’t had a chance to post any videos. Anyway, two weeks ago Drew ran his best time of the season in the 800m (3:06) in Temple. He finished a very close second to a kid from Killeen. Last week in Waco, he ran a little slower but won the race. Yesterday, we went to the Copperas Cove meet which turned out to be the worst run meet of the season. They ended up keeping the kids on the infield for about half an hour before the race and he ran his worst time of the season. He finished 4th.

So in summary, Drew has run the 800m in five track meets. He won three of them, finished second once, and finished fourth yesterday. Next weekend is the regional track meet in Waco. The top two finishers in an event get to go to the state meet. Regardless of how that goes, it has been a fun season.
