Well, this blog has turned into more of a place for me to rant about politics than to post things about the family. That trend continues with this post. I just read a Reuters article estimating the eventual costs of the Iraq war including interest. Here are some startling figures from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO):
- Total costs are estimated to total $2.4 trillion by 2017 when you include interest.
- CBO estimated that interest costs alone from 2001-2017 could total more than $700 billion.
- In Iraq alone, the United States is spending about $11 billion a month, with costs escalating.
- Finance charges for the money already spent on the war will total $415 billion from 2001 to 2017, according to CBO.
This is enough to make this lifelong Republican vote Democrat. The social programs that the Democrats want to pay for are a drop in the bucket compared to the money being funneled into the war.
